Across Continents: Tiger Woods Hits Golf Shot from Europe into Asia.. [Video]

Tiger Woods stopped the traffic in Istanbul today as he hit a golf ball from one continent into another, a publicity stunt ahead of his latest big-money tournament appearance..

The Bosphorus Bridge was closed during one of the busiest times of the day for traffic, prompting outrage from local residents, as thousands of people lined up to watch Woods hit the ball over the bridge from Europe into Asia.

Woods will play in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final at Antalya this week, earning a £1.5m appearance fee. Others to take part in the eight-man field include Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.

The tournament will take his earnings in the last month to nearly £5m, following the Abu Dhabi Championship and one-off exhibition match with McIlroy in China, for which Woods earned £1.24m for playing 18 holes.

He was criticised for skipping the HSBC Champions in Shanghai last week, a leading HSBC golf executive saying: "We are disappointed not to have Tiger here. Sponsors of our size deserve a modicum of respect for their investment."

Woods' 15-year association with Electronic Arts ended recently but he remains the highest earning athlete in the world according to Forbes magazine, with earnings totally $78 million last year.
