Joe Hart faces serious competition for his England place as Roy Hodgson prepares to trial Celtic keeper Fraser Forster next month. Although this is not a knee-jerk reaction to Hart’s latest high-profile error against Chelsea on Sunday, Hodgson is expected to give Forster his England debut at some point during the clash against Chile on November 15.
Four days later England play Germany at Wembley and Hodgson is likely to pick what he considers to be his strong team for the clash.
England’s head coach has previously admitted that he has not given other keepers enough chance to stake a claim for Hart’s place in friendlies. Hodgson has been incredibly loyal to Hart and still rates the Manchester City keeper as one of the best keepers in the business.
But Hodgson wants to blood some of his goalkeeping alternatives before the World Cup and the games are already running out.
Since Hodgson replaced Fabio Capello as England head coach in May 2012, Jack Butland (45 minutes), John Ruddy (45 minutes) and Ben Foster (45 minutes) have barely been able to make an impression.
Despite Forster’s heroics in goal for Celtic in the Champions League, the former Newcastle keeper has been patiently waiting for his chance.
