Good News: Van Persie injury not serious and Dutch hitman could return for the Liverpool clash

Despite missing the humiliating defeat to Manchester City, Robin van Persie's injury is not serious and he is expected to return to first team action soon.

The Dutchman's absence was a key facet of Manchester United's defeat at the Etihad, but Red Devils boss David Moyes confirmed Van Persie could be in line to return for the midweek Capital One Cup clash with Liverpool, or next weekend when his team play West Brom in the league.

'We thought Robin would be okay. We gave him every chance. It's nothing serious,' said Moyes on the the club's official website. 'He could be involved on Wednesday or next weekend.'

But Manchester United boss David Moyes said the striker's injury is not serious and he could return against Liverpool on Wednesday

Following the defeat the United manager revealed more about the groin injury that kept the prolific 30-year-old in the stands of the Etihad.

'I don’t think it’s that bad, we thought he was going to make it. He just felt something in his groin.

'He did a bit of training in the last couple of days, but he just felt it when he did any sharp movements and he didn’t want to aggravate it, so we took the decision [to not play him].'
